National Immunization Day: 7 February 2010

2 Drops for one life:

The Indian government had adopted a well planned advertising campaign all other India. There were posters in every town, village or in the smallest hamlet, encouraging every parent to bring their young children to the vaccination centers to be vaccinated against polio.

On the 7th of February, the US/Mauritius team of Rotarians were divided in two groups as there were many mobile centres installed all over Dhanbad surroundings and each group was allocated to visit at least 5 or 6 of them, to “vaccinate” children under the age of 5 by giving them two drops of the vaccine, thus immunizing them against polio.

Les villages visites etaient notamment Govindpur, Angonbari in Katraas, Baliyapur, Baghmara, Tetulmari, Tundi, Nirsa, Taupchanchi, Hirapur and Bhuyifor …

We were driven in cars, bearing posters on the NID and which went through the narrow lanes of the remote villages; even then some streets were so narrow that cars found difficulty to move, therefore the passengers were dropped as near to the mobile centre as possible and then they had to walk to reach the mobile centres….. The villages we visited were, amongst others, Govindpur, Angonbari in Katraas, Baliyapur, Baghmara, Tetulmari, Tundi, Nirsa, Taupchanchi, Hirapur and Bhuyifor …
